The Sunflower Chapter...

The Sunflower Chapter was organized in 1998, and affiliated with the national office of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) that same year. Today, more that 77 members in the Kansas City area belong to this chapter. The Sunflower Chapter is also an active organization with monthly dinner meetings, normally on the third Tuesday of the month. These meetings are held at the Embassy Suites at 10601 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kansas. Along with all that, the Sunflower Chapter annually awards three $1,000 Foundation Scholarships to ROTC cadets from the University of Kansas and leadership medals to JROTC cadets in three local high schools. Awards are given to students in the following schools:

• Shawnee Mission North High School in Johnson County

• Shawnee Mission West High School in Johnson County

• Washington High School in Wyandotte County

• a ROTC cadet enrolled in Kansas University.

Annually, leadership medals and certificates are awarded to selected juniors from the same high schools as stated above.
